APRIL 2018 HIGHLIGHTS // camp nano + goldi's collage

Ah, April. The month when spring starts to become a reality. The month when school subjects start to wrap up. The month when Lila participates in Camp NaNo for the first time, while nearly everyone else participates for approximately the millionth time. IT WAS FUN.

~LIFE-ING~

Let's see, what was I up to this month? Well, I...

- got a perfect score on one of my final exams (YASSSS)

- got a decent cut on my forehead during a soccer game, and since it was a "head wound," it just had to bleed all over the place. #embarrassing

(Then, in a later game, I got hit in the face again. But I was okay that time. Still, this had better not become my reputation.)

- listened to lots of good music, like Twenty One Pilots. *sniff* Mostly Twenty One Pilots, come to think of it.

- watched some videos of Tyler Joseph being sassy. I'm telling ya, his sass levels rival Percy Jackson's.

- went to watch my little cousin perform in a dance competition, which was cool!

I probably did more this month, but... yeah, let's move onto more interesting things.

~READ-ING~

- Goliath by Scott Westerfeld was the first one I finished, but that was waaaaaay back at the beginning of the month. Long time ago. Just know that it was a STUNNING conclusion to the Leviathan trilogy. You should read it, especially if you're into steampunk.

By the way, I'm not sharing the cover because it's not pretty. Only nice covers are allowed on this blog.

- The Boy Knight by G.A. Henty. Oh, would you look at that? Can't share that cover either. :P I didn't even like this book all that much; the main character annoyed me. But the historical detail in it is impressive, so I'll give it that!

- Day Moon by Brett Armstrong. I'll share the cover, because it's a nice one. :D (Hint: Its review is coming to the Rebellious Writing blog very soon, so stay tuned for that!)

- If I'm Found by Terri Blackstock. LOVED IT. This, my friends, is the perfect example of a Christian suspense novel done right! It kind of mirrored the previous book plot-wise (and it is an adult book, so take note that there were some bad people doing bad things, though all put in a bad light) but it was still soooo good. So much darkness in this book, and yet so much light. <3

- Disowned by Sarah Addison-Fox.

Everything about it was just... YES. My fairly high expectations weren't dashed to the ground! Noooo, quite the contrary! Read my (much longer) review on Goodreads HERE.

~WRITE-ING~

I made lots of progress on Dusted Red this month thanks to my first Camp NaNo - I am now at about 96,000 words. My poor characters.

Oh, and just to clarify, I WON NANO. I'm so excited!! I actually reached my goal yesterday night, hehe.

And now I'm going to display the header thing that the kind NaNo people gave me.

:')

Are you participating in NaNo too?? Did you finish yet (I know there's one more day)? Whether you "won" or "will win" or not, YOU ARE STILL A WINNER. And you know what I mean by that - any progress is a wonderful prize! So let's celebrate together!

Also, on a side note, I made a collage for my Goldilocks figure, Goldi, because 1) I wanted to, and 2) my fren Jem expressed interest a while back in seeing what Goldi looked like. Now here she is! Yay!

What do you think?? (Not my best collage, I know, so don't bother telling me that. XD)

~LEARN-ING~

Words are beautiful. I mean, when was the last time you sat back and really appreciated words? The written word, the spoken word, the sung word, etc. Words are powerful. Words are incredible. Words are a gift from God. And that's what He's been teaching me.

Every gift from God has an inexplicable beauty to it, and God has given us the gift of words every. Single. Day. In fact, words are so much a part of our everyday lives that we take them for granted all the time. It's inevitable that we would, of course. But lately, God has put it upon my heart to soak in the words I read, to absorb the words in the music I listen to.

He's also been teaching me this: everything is going to be okay. That one is a never-ending lesson, though.

Even when I'm discouraged, God is still good.

Oh, Ms Believer, my pretty sleeper
Your twisted mind is like snow on the ground
Your shaking shoulders prove that it's colder
Inside your head than the winter of dead

  1. I did a time goal for the first time ever, and that went...okay...the middle of April was crazy, and I thought I would have a hard time catching up, but I managed to do that, and I think I even passed my goal...(I'm not looking at it until tonight).

But that Goldie aesthetic is pretty!!! (Is she mute? I wanna say you mentioned that before, but I can't remember...)

  9. Congrats on NaNo! So excited to see Dusted Red grow! *squeals*

You're so right, words are incredible gifts from God, and I needed to be reminded of that today, so thank you. <3 I got small chills reading that you're learning "Everything is going to be okay", as my dear friend Rebekah DeVall has just published a book with the tagline "Everything will be okay", titled Iron Core. Maybe there's a lesson in there to you from Him? More details will be on my blog tomorrow, if you feel led to check it out. <3

    Have a great May! :D

    1. Thank you so much!! And aaaaahhhh, I'm so excited too!!! *squeals with you* :D

You're so welcome. <3 And thank you for sharing about Iron Core - your post was epic. Maybe I'll be able to read it sometime, though as of now I don't think I could afford it. Which is sad, because it sounds GOOD. And maybe God does have something for me in it, so if He does, He'll pave a way. :)

I could not appreciate it more, Melissa. THANK YOU SO, SO, SO MUCH. <3 <3
